This course introduces the fundamentals of transport engineering focusing on the peculiarities of the coastal regions (high density of population and built environment, high traffic due to coastal economy and tourism, various natural hazards, protection of historic heritage, etc.). The transport network includes roads, railways, bridges ensuring not only the regular activities in the area, but also ensuring the ports functionality. Within the course, students will discover the fundamentals of conception, design, and construction of transport network, as well as the principles and solutions of smart management. Sustainability, environmental protection, and development challenges are also addressed from a European perspective.
